A welcome cocktail will take place on Sunday 25 June 2023 at 20:00.
Boat trip
A boat trip to Lipari and Vulcano will be organised on Wednesday 28 June.
The weather conditions as well as the sea conditions are expected to be very good in this period; nevertheless some changes to the planned program will be possible depending on the weather conditions.
For all the participants that have booked their accomodation by using the procedure indicated on the conference web page, in the morning there will be a minivan shuttle service from the Eolian Hotel as well as from the other hotels to the harbour where the boat will be waiting for us.
The participants that have booked their accomodation by using a different procedure have to manage by themselves how to reach the harbour. In any case the harbour is at a walking distance by almost all hotels/B&B in Milazzo.
Information about the exact location of the boat will be provided early in advance.
Please wear your badge when coming from the boat trip it. If any participant wishes that the accompanying person(s) participates to the boat trip, He/She has to inform the LOC at the registration, to pay (by cash) and the LOC will provide a specific badge that has to be used by the accompanying person(s) during the social event.
During the day it will be possible to swim in the sea and the temperatures are expected to be high so we suggest that participants wear informal clothes suitable for the weather.
More details about the boat trip will be provided at the beginning of the conference.
Preliminary program
- The exact departure time of the boat has not been yet fixed but it will be around 9:00-10:00
During navigation, it will be possible to admire Milazzo cape, on which the great castle stands out, the largest fortified citadel in Sicily and the ancient village.
The arrival at the harbour of Lipari Marina Corta is expected at around 11:30.
You will stop on the island for about 2 and a half hours, to devote yourself to independent exploration of the island.
While staying on the island, it is advisable to visit the Castle of Lipari, a sixteenth-century building surrounded by walls built during the reign of Charles V. Inside the complex there is the Regional Archaeological Museum Bernabò Brea which houses artifacts dating back to Neolithic and related to marine archeology.
It is possible to stroll along Corso Vittorio Emanuele, a point of reference for shopping on the island, where it is possible to find various shops, restaurants and typical bars. We also point out the Cathedral of San Bartolomeo, the main place of worship of all the Aeolian Islands and the geophysical observatory in San Benedetto, to admire the panorama of Vulcano and Vulcanello.
- At around 1.30 pm we will leave the port of Lipari for the transfer to the island of Vulcano.
It is a quite short boat trip. At Vulcano, we will have lunch. The lunch will be a buffet lunch at a typical eolian restaurant and the cost is included in the registration fee.
The stop at the Vulcano island is useful to allow independent exploration of the island and bathing.
During your stay on the island, we recommend a visit to the Thermal Pool of Vulcano, where you can have a real "wellness treatment" with clayey mud and the Baia delle Acque Calde, which is a "natural hydromassage" that you absolutely must try.
For bathing, the Baia delle Sabbie Nere, a characteristic beach formed by volcanic sands, with shallow waters and clear waters. It is also possible to climb the crater of the Volcano, a walk in nature to enjoy unique landscapes and, once you reach the top, a breathtaking panorama.
- At about 5:30 pm, departure from Vulcano for the tour of the island by sea.
You can admire the Grotta del Cavallo and the Piscina di Venere and we have an aperitif on board.
- The return to the port of Milazzo is scheduled at approximately 19:00-20:00.
